The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) joint anti-terror military exercise “Peace Mission 2021” concluded at the Donguz training ground in Russia’s Orenburg region on September 24. Themes of progressive exercises and improved coordination in the exercise were highlighted, showing the stability of the SCO. Determination and commitment to maintaining regional peace and stability in the past twenty years.
keep up with the times
Just like the mirror, the SCO’s “Peace Mission” exercise series not only reflects past real-world combat experience, but also indicates counter-terror needs now and for some time to come.
He drew on a lot of useful experience from several regional military conflicts in recent years, such as the Syrian war and the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, tried some new proven tactical and training methods, and studied some of the current hot issues in the fight against terrorism. Operations, for example, how to deal with the drones that terrorist forces have repeatedly used in terrorist attacks recently.
Only by keeping pace with the times and closely following the changes in the battle form and fighting tactics of the enemy, the peace mission series can better enhance the ability to strike and deter international armed terrorists and maintain security and regional stability.
Peace Mission exercise series has been held under the Shanghai Cooperation Organization more than ten times, and always strives to raise the level of integrated operations, which is a key and essential component.
According to Cui Haibo, a Chinese military officer who participated in the recent exercises, the integration is reflected in three aspects. The first is the integration of forces with participating forces from various countries that work in coordination to combat international terrorist forces. The second is the legal and theoretical complementarity that provides the legitimacy of mutual support between the parties. The third is strategic integration that enables participating forces to complement each other at the command level.
“The extent to which the participating forces can develop joint plans largely reflects the degree of integration of the exercises and directs their joint operations in the live-fire phase,” Colonel Li Shuen said, adding that commanders from different countries worked hand in hand. Side and joint command of the forces refer to the integration of the true and deep sense.
Realizing the message of peace in solidarity
In addition, the 2021 Peace Mission demonstrated the determination and ability of the SCO member states to work to suppress the “three forces” (terrorism, separatism and extremism) and the level of their cooperation in defense and security.
“The SCO is not a military alliance that aims to counter aggression against any member,” Lee said. The exercises in this framework focus on combating international terrorist organizations in the region.
In line with the expectations of member states, the peace mission joint exercise serves two purposes, namely to enhance the ability of SCO members to fight international terrorist organizations through exchanges and mutual learning, and to send a clear signal to those organizations that the SCO is able to defeat.
At the same time, such exercises help member states better understand each other and deepen their friendship and mutual trust, so as to act in solidarity when facing security threats, and jointly maintain peace and stability that is more valuable than gold.
